Fixing America In 500 Words Or Less

Chapter 61

HOW BADLY ARE OUR
CHILDREN MISINFORMED?

Disinformation is prominent in the story of Adam and Eve and undoubtedly has been around since the dawn of human civilization.  Unlike ancient Greek which contains six different words for “love”, ¹  English only has one.  Consider how confusing it must be to small children when they hear adults talk about making love, loving wine, being in love, God's love and, loving their brother, sister and friends.

Today when a politician lies, media often dodges the word, reporting they were “untruthful”, “misspoke” or were “misleading”.  In 2019, the Washington Post reported Donald Trump had made over 10,000 false and misleading statements since taking office, as if misleading us is somehow preferable to lying. ²

Arguably, we would much rather someone lie to us than deliberately try to mislead us.  Direct lies can often be discredited through investigation and research, while deliberate deception can be more difficult to wade through. Consider for example, that millions of Americans are deceived daily by highly questionable media sources.

Even when using facts that are in themselves true, many priests, preachers, educators, media pundits, politicians and others succeed in deceiving the average citizen by arranging and presenting true facts out of context of the whole.  Scientists with an atheistic or religious ax to grind can be especially adept at deceiving the average American, as if we haven't already been misinformed enough by our educational experience.

For example, many scientists today randomly pull terms like "random", "blind", "unguided" "natural processes" out of a black hole rabbit's hat and, such science fiction then finds its way into student textbooks.  The truth is, even many scientists admit they have no idea how life came to be.  And obviously, if life existed prior to our own sun and solar system, human science most likely never will. ³

As far as anyone living on earth either knows or possibly could know, there is no such thing as a "natural" world or process, as opposed to a created world or process.  There is no evidence for "self-designing" magically appearing universes.  Anyone who teaches differently is a liar and, should be labeled a liar accordingly.  Just like when a politician misleads us, the media should brand him or her as a liar, rather than watering down the obvious with misleading terminology.

When we invent something without supporting evidence, we lie.  When we exaggerate, we lie.  When we are untruthful, we lie.  And, when we misspeak or are misleading, we lie.  Even if in our own minds we say something we believe to be true but later discover what we once believed to be correct isn't in fact true, we in fact have lied.

A wise man once wrote, ". . .let God be true but every human being a liar", because we all in truth, have lied.
4  Either through ignorance, arrogance or deliberate deceit, nevertheless we all lie.  And thus, every child born into human society inherits a culture of lies, stretching back into the mists of historical time.  How badly are our children misinformed?  You decide.

NOTES:

1. Ancient Greek contains six different words for love, as well as more slang and varients:  1) Agape, God's love/universal love; 2) Philia (also Philio), brotherly/sisterly love and friendship; 3) Eros, sexual love and passion; 4) Ludus, playful love; 5) Philautia, love of self; and 6) Pragma, longstanding love.  Some languages like Spanish have a neutural tense for when the intention is for both males and females.

Neither Hebrew, Greek or English have such a neutural tense and thus, sometimes when modern English bibles read as "he", "man" and similar, it is referring to both men and women, while other times it is referring to male only.  Even within Old Testament Mosaic law, some laws translated as "he" apply to both men and women, while other laws translated as "he" apply to male only.  This can create significant confusion and ofen leads to accusations of the Bible being male-dominant when rather, it is a matter of translator's judgement call and choice as to what the original text may or may not have intended.

This is compounded by the still somewhat predominant use of the KJV translation today, which coming from a late 16th and early 17th Century cultural reality, tends to be male-dominant at the expense of what the original intention may have been.  In spite of this and other bias, the NKJV probably remains the best translation containg the least amount of bias among a great many available today and thus, it is used throughout this work when the Bible is quoted.  There is no biblical translation and no other historical, scientific or other source of any length that is likely to be without human error and bias, whether intentional or otherwise.
