Good News According to John [ a translation from the Greek ] Chapter 1 In the beginning was the logos. And the logos was with God and, the logos was God. He was in the beginning with God. [ for explanation of "the logos", please Link Here. ] All things came into being through him and without him came into being not even one thing that has become. In him was life and the life was the light of people. And the light appears in the darkness and, the darkness did not overtake it. There came a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light but rather, he came that he might witness about the light. That was the true light which enlightens every person coming into the world. He was in the world and the world came into being through him and, the people knew him not. He came unto his own and his own did not receive him. But as many as received him, he gave to them authority to be children of God, to those who believe in his name; who not out of blood nor will of the flesh nor the will of people were born, but of God. And the logos became flesh and lived among us and, we discerned his glory, a glory as of an only begotten with the father, full of grace and truth. John witnessed about him and he cried out, "this was he of whom I said, he who comes after me came before me, for he was before me." For out of the fullness of him, we have all received and, grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses but, grace and truth came through Jesus Messiah. No one has ever yet seen God; the only begotten is in the bosom of the father, he has declared him. And this is the witness of John, when the Jews out of Jerusalem sent to him priests and Levites, that they might ask him, "who are you?" And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed that "I am not the Messiah." And they asked him, "what then, are you Elijah?" And he says, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "no." Therefore, they said to him, "who are you, that we might give an answer to those who have sent us? What do you say about yourself?" And he said, "I am a voice crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, exactly according to as the prophet Isaiah said." And those who had been sent were out of the Pharisees. And they asked him and said to him, "Why do you baptize, if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" John answered them saying, "I baptize in water, but in the midst of you stands whom you do not know, he comes after me, of whom I am not worthy that I should untie the strap of his sandal." These things took place in Bethany, across the Jordan where John was baptizing. On the next day, he saw Jesus coming to him and says, "Look, the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He it is who I said concerning, after me comes a man who has precedence over me, because he was before me. And I did not know him. But that he might appear to Israel, because of this, I came baptizing in water." And John bore witness saying that, "I have seen the spirit descending out of heaven as a dove and, it remained on him. And I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'on whom you will see the spirit descending and remaining on him, he it is who baptizes with the holy spirit.' And I have seen and borne witness that this is the son of God." Again the next day, John was standing and two of his followers. And looking at Jesus walking he said, "look the lamb of God." And the two followers heard him speaking and followed Jesus. Then Jesus having turned and seen them following said to them, "what are you looking for?" And they said to him, "Rabbi", which is translated 'teacher', "where do you stay?" He said to them, "come see." Therefore, they went and saw where he stayed. And they stayed the day with him; that was about the tenth hour. Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one out of two having followed him, who heard from John. He first finds Simon, his own brother and said, "we have found the anointed one [or "Messiah"], which is translated 'Christ'." He led him to Jesus. Looking at him, Jesus said, "you are Simon the son of Jonah; you shall be called Cephas," which means stone. On the next day, he desired to go into Galilee. And he found Philip and Jesus said to him, "follow me." Moreover, Philip was of Bethany, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "we have found him whom wrote of Moses and the law and the prophets, Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "is any good thing able to be out of Nazareth?" And Philip said to him, "come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and he said about him, "Look, truly an Israelite, in whom is no deceit." Nathanael said to him, "from where do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "before that Philip called you I saw you, being under the fig tree." Nathanael answered to him, "teacher, you are the son of God, you are the king of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe? You will see greater things than these."
