Good News According to John [ a translation from the Greek ] Chapter 4 Therefore, when Jesus knew that the Pharisees heard that Jesus made followers and baptized more than John, although indeed, Jesus himself did not baptize, but his followers did; he left Judea and went away again unto Galilee. Moreover, it was necessary for him to pass through Samaria. Therefore, he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Moreover, a well of Jacob was there. Therefore, Jesus being exhausted from the journey, thus sat at the well, about the sixth hour. A woman came out of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink," for his followers had gone away into the city that they might buy food. Therefore, the Samaritan woman said to him, "how do you being a Jew, ask me a Samaritan woman, for a drink, for Jews do not associate with Samaritans?" Jesus answered and said to her, "if you had known the gift of God and who it is speaking to you, give me a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given living water to you." The woman said to him, "sir, you have no bucket and the well is deep, therefore, from where do you have the living water? You are not greater than our father Jacob, are you, who himself gave us the well and himself drank of it and, his sons and cattle?" Jesus answered and said to her, "everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again. However, whoever might drink out of the water that I will give them, will never thirst again. Rather, the water that I will give them will become in them a spring of water, springing up into eternal life." The woman said to him, "sir, give me this water that I might not thirst, nor come here to draw." He said to her, "go and call your husband and come here." The woman answered and said to him, "I do not have a husband." Jesus said to her, "you said correctly you do not have a husband. You have had five husbands and now he whom you have is not your husband; this is true you have spoken." The woman said to him, "sir, I understand that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain and you say in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship." Jesus said to her, "believe me woman, that an hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the father. You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews. "But an hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the father in spirit and truth, for the father seeks such who worship him. God is spirit and it is necessary to worship in spirit and truth, for those who worship him." The woman said to him, "I know Messiah is coming, who is called 'Christ'. When he comes he will fully report all things to us." Jesus said to her, "I am who is speaking to you." And his followers came upon this and were amazed that he was speaking with a woman. However, no one said "what seek you?" or "why do you speak with her?" The woman then left her water pot and went away into the city. And said to the men, "come see a man who told me all things, whatever I did. Can this be the Messiah." They went forth out of the city and came unto him. In the meantime, his followers were asking him, saying "teacher, eat." Moreover, he said to them, "I have food to eat which you do not know." Therefore, the followers said to each other, "Did not anyone bring him something to eat?" Jesus said, "my food is that I would do the will of him who sent me and should bring his work to full development. "Do you not say that it is yet four months and the harvest comes? Look, I say to you, lift up your eyes and see the white fields, for they are near to harvest already. The one who reaps a reward receives and gathers fruit unto eternal life, so the one sowing and the one reaping might rejoice together. For this saying is true, that it is one who sows and another who reaps. "I sent you to reap what you have not intensively labored for. Others have strenuously labored and you have entered into their labor." Moreover, out of that city many of the Samaritans believed in him, because of the word of the woman testifying that, "he told me all things, whatever I did." Therefore, when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them. And he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. And they said to the woman, "no longer because of your speech we believe. For we ourselves have heard and we know that this is truly the savior of the people." Then after the two days, he went forth from there into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown. Therefore, when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen for themselves all the great things he had done in Jerusalem during the feast; for they had gone to the feast. Therefore, he came again into Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman in Capernaum whose son was sick. Having heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him and asked that he would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die. Therefore, Jesus said to him, "if you do not see signs and wonders you will not believe." The nobleman said to him, "sir, come down before my child dies." Jesus said to him, "go, your son lives." The man believed the word Jesus said to him and he went his way. Moreover as he was going down, his servants met him saying that his boy lives. Therefore, he required the hour from them in which he got better. Therefore, they said to him, "yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him." Therefore, the father knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him, "your son lives." And he himself believed and all of his household.
