Good News According to John

[ a translation from the Greek ]
Chapter 16
"These things I have spoken to you that you might not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogues. But an hour comes that everyone having killed you, will think to give a service to God. And these things they will do because they don't know the father nor me.
"But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour of them comes that you might remember them, that I said these things to you. Moreover, I didn't say them to you from the beginning because I was with you. But now I go to him who sent me and none of you ask me, where are you going?
"And because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart. But I say the truth to you, it is profitable for you if I should go away. For if I don't go away the Counselor no, won't at all come to you, but if I make my way, I will send him to you.
"And having come, he will convict people about sin and about righteousness and about judgment. Indeed about sin because they don't believe in me. Moreover, concerning righteousness because I go away to the father and you see me no more. And of judgment because the ruler of this world has been judged.
"I have many things yet to say to you, but you aren't able to bear them now. But when he shall come, the spirit of truth, he will guide you into all truth. For he won't speak of himself, but whatever he may hear, he will speak. And he will declare to you things to come.
"He will glorify me, for he will take out of what is mine and will declare to you. All things whatever the father has are mine. Because of this, he will take out of what is mine and declare to you. A little while and you no longer see me and again, a little while and you will see me, because I go away to the father."
Therefore, some of his followers said to each other, "What is this he says to us, 'a little while and you don't see me and again, a little while and you will see me and because I go away to the father'?" Now they were saying, "What is this that he is saying, a little while? We don't know what he is saying."
Jesus knew they desired to ask him and he said, "Do you ask among each other about this that I said, 'A little while and you don't see me and again, a little while and you will see me'? Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and will lament, but people will rejoice. You will be grieved, but your grief will become joy.
"The woman has pain when she gives birth because her hour has come. But when she brings forth the child she no longer remembers the tribulation, on account that a person has been born into the world. Therefore, now you indeed also have grief, but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice. And no one takes your joy from you.
"And in that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly I say to you, whatever you might ask the father in my name, he will give you. Until now, you asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
"I have spoken these things in allegories to you. An hour comes when I will speak no more in allegories to you, but I will report to you plainly about the father. In that day you will ask in my name and I don't say to you that I will implore the father for you.
"For the father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I am from God. I came forth from the father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the father."
His followers said, "Look, now you speak freely and don't speak in allegory. Now we know that you know all things and have no need that you should ask anyone. In this we believe that you came forth from God."
Jesus answered them, "Now do you believe? Look, an hour is coming and has come when you will be scattered, each to their own and you will leave me alone. Yet, I am not alone for the father is with me. These things I have spoken to you that in me you might have peace. You have tribulation in the world, but have confidence, I have conquered the world."
